D-day Beaches
- The American beaches of Utah and Omaha, and the British and Canadian beaches of Gold, Juno
and Sword.
- Scene of the largest military action of all time on
June 6, 1944, witness to some of the most intense fighting of the entire war.
Caen
- A city well worth visiting, Caen has everything from an 11th century castle built
by William the Conqueror (known as William Duke of Normandy before he beat Harold at the Battle of Hastings)
to the ultra modern Museum of Peace.
- The Memorial of Caen museum covers the traumatic events that shook the region during World War
II.
- Discover the two beautiful and famous churches of L'Abbayeaux aux Dames and L'Abbaye aux Hommes and find out
why they are so called.
- Musee des Beaux-Arts de Caen.
- Children will love Festyland, a theme park near Caen with over 30 attractions.
Bayeux
- Musee de la Tapisserie de Bayeux houses the famous tapestry, a 70-m long piece of embroidery
that graphically tells the story of the
1066 Battle of Hastings.
- The museum of the Battle of Normandy (Musee Memorial de la Bataille
de Normandie) gives a precise account of this famous battle.
- The Cathedrale de Notre Dame de Bayeux should not be missed, especially when lit up at night.
This Norman gothic building was begun in the 11th century and is
best known for its south portal that depicts the assassination of
Archbishop Thomas à Becket in Canterbury Cathedral in 1170
Giverny
- American Museum (Musee d'Art Americain), for 40 years the country home of
Claude Monet.
Rouen
- Scene of Joan of Arc's execution.The heart of Richard the Lionheart is held in the cathedral crypt.
- Musée Jeanne d'Arc tells the life of Joan of Arc with waxwork
figures. A 15th century crypt with models and documentary archive material.
Honfleur
- Satie House and Museum.
- Saint Catherine's Church -this famous 15th-century cathedral is the largest surviving
wooden church in France.
